Artist Commentary: At work, I heard an eating disorder joke, which really hurt for someone in the midst of recovery. Eating disorders are not a punchline. They are not glamorous, vain, or just a diet. They are life-threatening and life-altering. This drawing represents my experience with anorexia. I feel haunted everyday by a thing that disguises itself as my friend and savior. Even though all it has done is brought me down a dark and painful path. The skeleton is anorexia’s true form, and the sad individual is myself. This image is something I generally do not like to show, but I know my masked face was the only thing hiding my pain deep in my anorexia.
