I am currently going on to my second year of studying psychology. I love playing guitar, reading and drawing. It calms me down. I am studying psychology because I would love to help people who are like me, who suffer from serious mental illnesses. I wish to end the awful stigma which our illnesses face.
How Has Beating Eating Disorders Helped you?
It has helped me connect with people who are fighting the same battle as I am, and making me feel as though I belong and I do not suffer on my own.
Where are you in your recovery journey?
I am currently in my very first month of recovery. It is so challenging, but I know in the end it will be so worth it.
What are your future recovery oriented goals?
To be content with the person in the mirror, to finally be able to smile genuinely and go to the beach, eat great meals. Do everything that my eating disorder never allowed me to do.
What is the most helpful thing someone has said to you? What has been the most harmful?
The most helpful: Recovery is a rollercoaster ride, but it is worth all the ups and downs.
Harmful: Just get over it and eat healthy. It’s easy.
Is there anything else you would like to add that you want people to know?
I just want everyone to know that their problems are valid. No matter what anyone says, no matter what you see on social media. Your problems are valid. You are valid. You are loved and so, so special. I will know it for you if you cannot know it for yourself. You are valid.
